Blog #2: Early Memory

One day I was at my favorite pre-school, we had spent the day tie-dying shirts for our dads for Fathers Day. I remember my shirt was mainly white with little bits of faded blue and red splattered over it. Despite the lack of dye on my shirt I was extremely proud to give this gift to my dad because I had worked so hard on it. While I was explaining to him how we made the shirts I started to feel a tired sensation throughout my body.

After that I don't remember much, but I do remember waking up in the dark, confused. In the morning my dad told what had happened. Apparently I had passed out into my macaroni and cheese explaining the process of tie dying, and all the fun that my friends and I had that day.

I chose the article "GitHub is Latest Tech Company to Face Sexism Allegations," by Jessica Guynn in 2014. The article is about a woman named Julie Ann Horvart, who was working in an engineering company and experienced multiple accounts of sexual harassment. I choose this article because I feel strongly connected to and sorry for women who experience sexual harassment. It really bothers me when I see misogynistic men in the world today who believe they are legitimately better than women solely based on their gender. In the article it states that Horvart romantically rejected a male engineer who then later retaliated by removing lines of code from her projects. By 2015 we have abolished slavery, made planes that fly at top speeds, improved health care ratings, won multiple gold metals in the Olympics, and yet we still continuously see sexual harassment especially subjected to women in places ranging from schools, to the work place, to homes and to regular day to day life.
